A while back I started getting really frustrated with makeup wipes, and I decided that I needed to find a new way of how I remove my makeup. I couldn’t find one that left my skin feeling clean while not irritated, or that didn’t burn my eyes. I also hated how many wipes I was going through, sometimes I would have to use one just for my eyes, then another for the rest of my face…and I feel like I wear pretty basic makeup on the daily, so two wipes just seemed excessive!
There had to be a better way…
In an effort to be a little more environmentally conscious, I decided that I would skip the wipes and try out using Micellar water. I found that this product worked SO much better for me, and it was much less bothersome for my eye area. I would soak a cotton pad or two and wipe away as much as I could before cleansing with my favorite face wash.
Over time, I found myself not loving this either. Mostly because I was going through cotton pads like CRAZY between toning twice a day and using a couple to remove my makeup off every evening. So once again, I went out in search of another option…
Wait, now I think I’ve got it…
I was still loving my Micellar water to remove my makeup, but I thought to myself “what if I could just find a resusable alternative to the cotton pads so I’m not buying so many of these dang things?” Well self, they DO make reusable cotton pads, and I think they are GREAT…just not for me. You see, I am admittedly not the best at keeping up with laundry, and the idea of having a separate little wash bag hanging around JUST for these tiny cotton pads, well, I just wasn’t so sure I could keep up with that life.
“What if I could find a reusable alternative…?”
Enter my best idea YET!!! After using some cleansing balms (I like this one) to remove my makeup, I wondered if I could use my Micellar water in the same way (because let’s face it, cleansing balms are expensive)?!? Why yes, yes I can…
The products I use…
To remove my makeup, I put micellar water into an oil friendly plastic spray bottle (I use these). I shake it up, just like you normally would, then I spray all over my face to get it pretty damp, I don’t know, maybe 10 pumps give or take. Then using clean hands, I rub all over to dissolve my makeup. Next up is the fun part…
I wet a microfiber towel and rub in circular motions all around my face, and it literally takes EVERYTHING off!!! It looks a bit like a horror movie mask on the rag when I’m done, but I love it. My skin feels cleaner than it ever did using a makeup wipe or cotton pads. Afterwards, sometimes I use my face wash, and sometimes I just jump right into my skin care routine, depending on how late it is or how lazy I am. Either way, my skin has never felt better after I remove my makeup, and this will be my method for LIFE!!!
Save money, time & the environment…
I’m not going to pretend that I do everything in my power to be sustainable, or environmentally sound, BUT I have been trying to make better choices as time goes on when it comes to how my consumables affect the planet. I love using this method to remove my makeup, it saves me time, it’s a much cheaper alternative in the long run to buying makeup wipes for a small initial investment, and it uses fewer resources… I call that a win in all directions!
I still use a makeup wipe here and there, like when I’m traveling, and I have a small pack in my car for an emergency smudge situation, but in general, this is how I do it on a daily basis. Let me know if you have any questions about my method for how I remove my makeup! I’d be glad to help, and I hope you truly love it as much as I do!!!
