One night my girlfriends and I had a group text going about skin and what are some things to try and clear it up. We threw around some “have you tried…” or “I love this…” comments, and I started to realize that it’s not so much the what but rather the when and how that matters the most. That is when I decided to share my skincare schedule.
Everyone’s skin is different…
Naturally we all need different products to accomplish our various skincare goals, but I believe that there are a few tried and true steps that can help us all, no matter which products we choose to fill in the gaps. When it comes to skincare, few things are always true, but one important fact to remember is that everyone needs both physical and chemical exfoliation.
Wait, that sounds scary…
Slow down, take a deep breath and realize that chemical exfoliation doesn’t always mean putting on a mask that makes you look like you strayed to close to the sun for the next four days… Our skin needs to regenerate and create new cells to look youthful, bright and healthy. It takes too long to do this on its own so when we help it out by exfoliating, we get rid of old cells to make room for the new.
Physical exfoliating is when you use either a facial scrub or a scrubber tool to physically (duh!) buff away & remove the dead skin and buildup. This is important because dead skin and residue from makeup and other skincare products can act like a blanket over your skin, not fully allowing it to breathe and it also can lead to clogged pores. Chemical exfoliation usually involves gentle peels and acid products to help stimulate blood flow to the skin and help it re-produce faster.
“when it comes to skincare, few things are always true, but one important fact to remember is that everyone needs both physical and chemical exfoliation.”
Okay, so when do I actually DO these different things?
Over the years, I have gotten into a pretty solid and steady skincare routine. Sometimes I fall off the wagon and that’s ok, however, I would say most of the time, I do tend to follow this skincare schedule.
*I want to add here that before each step listed below, I have already done two things each day and that is remove my makeup (checkout my blog post on how I do that here) & wash my face. I’m not going to list every product that I use in my daily morning & night skincare routines, that is for another post or two… I will add the products that I use as part of my skincare schedule that supplement my daily routine.
- My fave mask tools: Mixing Set | Brush
- Clay Mask: I mix mine with Apple Cider Vinegar
- Chemical Peel
- Face Scrubs: Normal Skin | Problem Skin
- Facial Scrubby Pads
Take it Day by Day…
Whatever day you choose to start your new skincare schedule is entirely up to you! I like to think of my “Day 1” as being on a Tuesday, but that is just because I enjoy my clay mask lining up with Sunday night. Below you can find links to every single product you need to supplement your daily skincare routines from the tools I use to the products themselves. I have included two facial scrubs, one for normal skin, and one for problem skin, but I have used both and love them each for their respective purpose.
It seems like a lot, but once you get the hang of this schedule, it really becomes second nature. With the exception of the derma planing, chemical peel, and the clay mask, it will add mere seconds to your routine, but it makes ALL THE DIFFERENCE! I hope you found this post helpful and I can’t wait to hear how it works for you!
